$100,000 donation boosts Salvation Army’s holiday giving efforts in Traverse City

TRAVERSE CITY — The Salvation Army of Traverse City received a $100,000 donation this Giving Tuesday that will go toward matching community donations in the month of December.

Sue Brown, director of community resource development for the Salvation Army Traverse City, said that the charity is grateful for the support.

The Salvation Army has operated in Traverse City for over 130 years and feeds more than 15,000 people per year.

Brown highlighted the Salvation Army’s Teen Angel program, which seeks to grant the wishlists of 150 teens in the Traverse City area.

The program was created by Ruth Blick, who was president of the Salvation Army Traverse City before she passed away last year.

“She started and created the teen angel program seven years ago, seeing that teens 13—17 were having a harder time being adopted by people in our community,” Brown said. “They are still kids. They need to be cared for and know that they matter and that they deserve a joyful and bright Christmas, and something under the tree as well.”

Brown also encouraged those with the means to consider sponsoring the Teen Angel program, which is still looking for 25 supporters.
