Gaylord Tourism Bureau donates $5,000 to aid snowmobile trail cleanup

GAYLORD — The Gaylord Area Convention & Tourism Bureau has donated $5,000 to the Gaylord Snowmobile Trails Council to aid in the cleanup of ice storm damage on the local trail system.

Otsego County, home to nearly 100 miles of groomed snowmobile trails, faced significant challenges following an unprecedented ice storm in April.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources initially cleared the trails, and the Gaylord Snowmobile Trails Council completed the restoration by fall, ensuring the trails are safe for the upcoming snowmobiling season.

“The DNR had a great deal on their plate and we’re thankful they attended to the snowmobile trails as quickly as they did,” said Paul Beachnau, Executive Director of the Gaylord Area Convention & Tourism Bureau. “Our local Trails Council was still faced with a tremendous amount of work to have them ready before the season officially started.”

The Gaylord Snowmobile Trails Council not only cleared debris but also widened pathways to improve safety for snowmobilers. This effort was crucial to prepare the trails for the winter season, which attracts numerous snowmobiling enthusiasts to the area.

The Trails Council is currently seeking a volunteer to assist with a trail reroute and land lease project.
