NMC students distribute Thanksgiving meal kits to families in need

TRAVERSE CITY — Also at the Northwestern Michigan College campus but across the street from the mobile food pantry, NMC students were also making sure people in need in the traverse city area have access to thanksgiving meals.

Chloe Boeve, an NMC Senior, said students distributed over 212 Thanksgiving meal kits tonight as part of the 12th annual Thanks-For Giving drive.

The student led initiative provides a complete thanksgiving meal with all the fixings.

The meals will go to 50 families selected by Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the remaining meal kits will go to NMC students.

“This means a lot. I, like I said, I am a culinary student, I’m very community forward. I love doing different fundraisers like this, and this means a lot for the students to just know that they’re making a difference in their local community. It’s been really nice seeing it come to fruition because we’ve spent 16 weeks in the classroom building and preparing for this,” said Boeve.

Boeve said it takes a lot of work to pull this project off-they have been fundraising and securing donations through local businesses and organizations all throughout the fall semester

They held two fundraisers recently to help fund the food, a euchre tournament and a Glow Skate event.
