Mount Pleasant family decorates tree with pink lights to honor daughter Jessie Baderschneider

MOUNT PLEASANT — Jessie Baderschneider, who passed away from esophageal cancer in September, is being remembered by her family with a brightly lit tree in her honor.

Jessie’s mother, Pattie Baderschneider, and sister, Shaina Baderschneider-D’Ambrosio, have decorated a tree with bright pink lights to celebrate Jessie’s life and the joy she brought to others.

Jessie was diagnosed with cancer in January and fought bravely until her passing just before Labor Day.

“She was my best friend. We were really close,” said Shaina Baderschneider-D’Ambrosio, Jessie’s sister, reflecting on their bond.

“She made friends everywhere she went,” said Pattie Baderschneider, Jessie’s mother, recalling how Jessie connected with people.

Jessie was the youngest of three daughters and attended school in Mount Pleasant before moving to Florida for her college education. After graduating, she moved to Leesburg, Virginia, where she pursued a career in technology sales.

Throughout her battle with cancer, Jessie was known for her honesty and openness, asking direct questions and expecting truthful answers from her doctors. Despite the prognosis of 2 to 12 months, Jessie remained brave and optimistic, planning to make it through the holidays.

Pattie and Shaina decided to honor Jessie with a tree decorated in bright pink, her favorite color, instead of the traditional periwinkle associated with esophageal cancer. “Pink was her color,” said Shaina, emphasizing Jessie’s love for the vibrant hue.

The family has experienced signs that remind them of Jessie, such as seeing cardinals and rainbows, which they interpret as messages from Jessie and their father. “I just felt like it was my dad saying, ‘Hey, I’ve got her,’” Shaina shared.

Jessie’s legacy of acceptance and friendship is something her family hopes will be carried on by her nieces. “She had a special affinity for the underdog,” Pattie said, highlighting Jessie’s inclusive nature.

Through the bright pink lights of the tree, Pattie and Shaina Baderschneider keep Jessie’s memory alive, celebrating the light she brought into their lives and the lives of those around her.
