Consumers Energy prepares for strong winds and snow in Lower Peninsula

MICHIGAN — Consumers Energy is gearing up for a significant storm expected to hit the state on Wednesday and Thursday, bringing strong winds and snow across the Lower Peninsula.

The utility company has announced that its line workers and field crews are ready to be deployed to affected areas, with trucks and essential materials prepared to assist in power restoration efforts.

“We expect this storm to deliver strong winds and a wintery mix over the next couple of days, and we want our customers to know that Consumers Energy is ready,” said Norm Kapala, Consumers Energy’s vice president of grid operations restoration and work management.

Communities across the Lower Peninsula are bracing for widespread strong winds and accumulating snow, particularly along and west of U.S. 127, where several inches of snow are anticipated.

Consumers Energy is advising customers to prepare for potential power outages by charging electronic devices, having an emergency kit ready, and unplugging sensitive electronics.

The company also advises having a food safety plan in place, especially with the Thanksgiving holiday, and to visit FoodSafety.gov for guidance on keeping food safe during outages.

Safety tips include staying at least 25 feet away from downed power lines and using generators safely to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.

As the storm approaches, Consumers Energy emphasizes the importance of preparation and safety, urging residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of potential outages.
