Big Rapids Police host gift drive to support WISE and families in need

BIG RAPIDS — The Big Rapids Police Department, led by Chief Danielle Haynes, is hosting its sixth annual Season of Giving gift drive in partnership with WISE, a domestic violence shelter, to support individuals and families during the holiday season.

The gift drive, which runs from December 1 through December 18, aims to collect essential items such as toys, clothing, and household supplies for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and sex trafficking served by WISE. Donations can be made at the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety or during a special drop-off event at Belle’s Coffee House on December 10.

“Your generosity will help provide essential toys, clothing, and household supplies,” stated the Big Rapids Police Department in their announcement of the event.

WISE, the partner organization for the gift drive, is dedicated to offering advocacy, safety options, and support services to empower individuals and families. They focus on strengthening the community through awareness, prevention, and education.

Since its inception in 2020, the Season of Giving has successfully donated over 1,000 gifts to children in need, thanks to the support of the local community, businesses, and organizations.

The list of needed items includes toys for all ages, twin bedding, children’s shoes, winter clothing, snack items, toiletries, and household products. The shelter currently houses 14 children, ranging from 1 to 16 years old.

For more information about the gift drive, individuals can contact Officer William Sell at 231-527-0005 or via email at wsell@bigrapidsdps.org.
