Shepler’s to implement $1 fare adjustment for 2026 to support upgrades

ST. IGNACE, MACKINAW CITY — Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry will implement a $1 fare increase starting April 21, 2026, to enhance what the company said are guest experience and support operational costs.

In a Nov. 24 release, the company said the fare adjustment is part of Shepler’s efforts to introduce a streamlined virtual ticketing system with QR code scanning, aimed at reducing wait times and making boarding faster and more convenient for passengers.

“This $1 adjustment helps us continue investing in the people, vessels, and technology that make our service safe, reliable, and welcoming for everyone who visits,” said Jason Wiley, Director of Operations at Shepler’s.

Since its acquisition, Shepler’s said it has invested over $5 million in ongoing maintenance and performance upgrades to ensure safe, dependable service for every rider and the growing demand for Shepler’s ferry service has placed additional strain on boats, vehicles, and docks, necessitating substantial investment to maintain infrastructure and operational costs.

The ferry company also said it supports more than 200 seasonal and year-round jobs, providing meaningful employment opportunities for young adults and local workers.
