Great American Smokeout: DHD#10 encourages community to quit smoking

CADILLAC —District Health Department #10 is promoting the Great American Smokeout, encouraging community members to take the first step toward a smoke-free life on November 20.

The Great American Smokeout, organized by the American Cancer Society, occurs annually on the third Thursday of November, aiming to inspire tobacco users to quit smoking.

“The Great American Smokeout gives people a moment to pause and think about what a smoke-free future could look like,” said Christy Rivette, Community Health Director at DHD#10.

Quitting smoking is a challenging process that requires time and a plan, as tobacco products are highly addictive. Most tobacco users make several quit attempts before they are successful. The Michigan Tobacco Quitlink offers free counseling to those who qualify, providing support for those attempting to quit. Community members can find more information about tobacco cessation resources at DHD#10’s website.

With initiatives like the Great American Smokeout, DHD#10 hopes to improve community health by encouraging tobacco users to quit smoking, emphasizing the immediate and long-term health benefits of quitting.
