TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Police said a 32-year-old city employee was found shot to death early Sunday morning in the 300 block of East State St.
Officers were called to the scene around 7:48 a.m. and identified the victim as Lawerance Boyd IV, who was an employee with Parking Services.
Investigators said evidence links this homicide to the attempted murder of a Traverse City Police Officer late Saturday night. Two suspects are already in custody, and police said the firearm used in both incidents has been recovered.

Authorities report no ongoing threat to the public as the shelter-in-place order was lifted.
Traverse City Mayor Amy Shamroe shared a statement on Nov. 16.
“I’m deeply saddened by the horrific killing of Traverse City employee, Lawerance Boyd IV,” Shamroe said. “Violence like this has no place in our city and TCPD is working with regional and state partners to ensure justice is served. Please lift up Lawerance, his family and colleagues in your prayers and thoughts as we try to make sense of this senseless act.”
Interim City Manager Benjamin Marentette also shared a statement on Nov. 16 following the incident.
“This tragedy is heartbreaking. I want to thank the members of the exceptional Traverse City Police Department, under the leadership of Police Chief Matt Richmond, for their work. Their actions stopped more horrible things from happening that would have affected more lives,” said Marentette. “I also want to thank our law enforcement partners and first responders for their work.”
“We extend our deepest sympathies and our love to the family of Lawrence Boyd IV, a teammate in our Parking Services Department,” Marentette said. “While often this goes unsaid, I also extend our thoughts to the suspects’ families. We are making support services available to all city employees who comprise Team Traverse City.”
Multiple agencies continue to investigate this incident.
