MISSAUKEE COUNTY — Troopers from the Michigan State Police Cadillac Post began investigating an alleged sexual assault on June 2, 2025, involving multiple locations in Benzie and Missaukee Counties.
An arrest warrant was issued for Trevor Vanhaitsma, 25, of Lake City, who was arrested on Nov. 12 without incident and taken to the Missaukee County Jail.
A search of his home on November 13 led to the seizure of evidence and weapons. Vanhaitsma faces multiple charges, including first-degree criminal sexual conduct and child sexually abusive activity.
He was arraigned on November 13 and given a $50,000 cash surety bond with additional conditions. His next court date is set for December 4.
According to a Nov. 17 release, here are the charges Vanhaitsma is facing:
- One Count: Criminal Sexual Conduct – First Degree (Weapon Used)
- One Count: Criminal Sexual Conduct - First Degree(Multiple Variables)
- One Count: Criminal Sexual Conduct - First Degree (During Felony)
- Three Counts: Criminal Sexual Conduct – Third Degree (Person Thirteen Through Fifteen)
- Three Counts: Criminal Sexual Conduct – Fourth Degree (Victim Thirteen Through Fifteen)
- One Count: Child Sexually Abusive Activity
- One Count: Child Sexually Abusive Activity – Distributing or Promoting
- One Count: Children – Accosting for Immoral Purposes
- Two Counts: Computers- Internet-Communicating with Another to Commit a Crime
- Two Counts: Child Sexually Abusive Material – Possession
