This prompted a revision to the standards to provide specifics for districts on what they can cover.

Michigan Department of Education Deputy Superintendent Dr. Diane Golzynski, said that the standards include physical activity, nutrition, drugs, vaping, alcohol, mental health, and social emotional health.

She adds that a part of that standard is sex education.

Local boards of education determine the health curriculum for their districts, which may include sex education curriculum, that parents have the right to opt their children out of sex education instruction.
