TCAPS supports students with winter essentials at annual pop-up shop

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — Traverse City Area Public Schools is doing its part in helping students stay warm during the winter with an annual pop-up shop.

For two years, TCAPS has been hosting a Winter Warm-Up Pop-Up Shop.

The shop allows parents to come and pick up new or gently used winter clothes, blankets, school supplies, and even food.

Items there are donated from all over, including these blankets donated by a group in the Upper Peninsula.

All this was started to help students have proper winter clothing

TCAPS Student Support Network Coordinator Katie Kubesh said when students go out to recess, they get cold and wet, making it hard for students to concentrate in class.

“We just make sure that that’s one more barrier that we’re able to remove for them so that they can achieve in school,” Kubesh said.

Participation in the shop is by appointment only, and while the event ends Friday, Nov. 4, they have already closed registration at 320 students.
