Emergency landing near Ludington Pumped Storage Plant leaves no injuries

LUDINGTON — A small plane made an emergency landing Saturday afternoon near the Ludington Pumped Storage Plant in Mason County.

Authorities said an iPhone crash detection alert first tipped off emergency crews just after 2 p.m.

The 61-year-old pilot from Washington told deputies the engine seized mid-flight, forcing him to make a controlled landing on top of the reservoir.

The aircraft slid down an embankment and came to rest at the bottom of the hill.

The pilot and his 83-year-old passenger from Muskegon were not injured.
