CHEBOYGAN COUNTY — A combination of several alternative ways of heating may be to blame for a house fire that killed two people.
According to the Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, firefighters were called to home in Topinabee shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1. When they got there, they say the north end of the house was fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters were able to locate two people inside the home who had succumbed to the flames, a 75-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman.
They found the couple had been keeping their home warm with a combination of electric, kerosene and propane heaters, but have not directly said if those devices were the cause of the fire. They also believe the people who died in the fire had mobility problems.
Names of the victims have not yet been released. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
