Traverse City’s NoBo market to close at end of October

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City’s Commonground Cooperative announced NoBo Market, one of the tenant owners, will close at the end of October.

Owners said the move will be an opportunity to reimagine the riverside space for community-centered programming.

Morningside Café, located in front of the Commongrounds building, will continue its weekday operations.

A release announcing NoBo’s closing stated “We extend our deepest gratitude to the investors who believed in NoBo Market’s vision and provided the capital to bring the concept to life … We also thank our partners who worked alongside NoBo Market, including local farmers, food artisans and talented chefs and food entrepreneurs who used the space to develop their craft and build their followings. Most importantly, we thank the guests and visitors who supported NoBo Market throughout its journey.”

NoBo Market opened as a café, restaurant and beverage bar on National Coffee Day, Sept. 29, 2023.

Located in the Commongrounds Cooperative on the banks of the Boardman River at 414 E. Eighth Street, NoBo was a collaborative food and drink project aimed to provide “community, connection and sustainable food and beverage experiences,” according to initial 9&10 News reporting on the market.

In December 2023, the Northwestern Michigan College Foundation invested $50,000 in NoBo Market to help the school’s culinary program by providing paid internships and business opportunities for graduates.
