Kent County Sheriff’s Office missing K-9 found in Irons

IRONS — A Kent County Sheriff’s Office K9 that went missing Friday morning has been found safe.

K9 Soka was located about 4.5 miles from where he got loose from his handler in Irons, according to the sheriff’s office. A local resident spotted the dog, who appeared healthy except for a few porcupine quills. He will be taken to a veterinarian for evaluation.

The sheriff’s office credited the help of residents and multiple agencies in the search, including the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Manistee County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Grand Rapids Fire Department, and Grand Rapids Police Department.

Officials thanked community members in Kent and Lake counties who shared posts, sent tips, and helped keep watch during the search.


IRONS — Authorities are searching for a missing K9 from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office after the dog ran away from his handler Friday morning in Irons, Michigan.

The dog IS named Soka and is a German Shorthaired mix trained in narcotics detection.

Soka is described as friendly, and was last seen wearing a collar with identification.

Anyone who spots Soka is urged to secure him if possible and contact their local Sheriff’s Office or Lake County Central Dispatch immediately.
