UPDATE 2:54 p.m. Sept. 18:
MECOSTA COUNTY — According to a Sept. 18 update from Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted a complete search of Chippewa Hills High Schools along with Michigan State Police K9 units, and several interviews with students were completed.
No credible threat or evidence of a gun being on school grounds was established. Two students were turned over to the school administration for disciplinary action.
MECOSTA COUNTY — Deputies responded to Chippewa Hills High School at about 9:47 a.m. Thursday after a report of a possible student with a gun, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office.
Per a Sept. 18 news release, deputies were joined by officers from the Big Rapids Police Department and Michigan State Police. Investigators believe a student overheard another student mention a gun and reported the comment.
The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution. A Michigan State Police K-9 team is assisting with a search of the building and interviews are underway.
The sheriff’s office said there is no indication that a student actually possessed a firearm on campus. The lockdown will remain in place until the building search is complete.
Officials said they take all threats seriously and will stay on scene until the investigation and search are finished.
