PETOSKEY — The City Council is being asked to take action at its next meeting, September 15, on a resolution to streamline the city’s ability to comply with the state’s Clean and Renewable Energy and Energy Waste Reduction Acts.

The measures are aimed at implementing and Energy Optimization Plan (EOP) that would decrease energy use in order to reduce the requirement of more energy and delay the need for additional electricity production.

The City Council will look at entering into what’s called the Retail Energy Improvement Program Project Participation Agreement developed by the Michigan Public Power Agency (MPPA), of which City of Petoskey is a member. The MPPA contracted a third party, Frankling Energy, LLC, to provide energy efficiency services for the city and other members across the state.

The agreement would create a structured program that leverages economies of scale and scope, standardization and business alignment to reduce the costs and risks to implement energy waste reduction and clean energy programs, to help MPPA members to comply with the Clean and Renewable Energy and Energy Waste Reduction Acts.

The city says it will help members streamline compliance with state energy legislation and decrease the burden of providing their retail customers with energy reduction and clean energy programs and services.

The next Petoskey City Council meeting is Monday, September 15 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Petoskey City Hall.
