Grayling’s Great Northern Art Explosion Showcases International Talent

Art is important to many communities. It can be healing and bring people together. The Artisan Village in Grayling has a Great Northern Art Explosion Exhibition with pieces from around the globe. The exhibition also has pieces from regional artists around Michigan.

“It really attracts art and artists from around the globe,” Radel Rosin, Executive Director said. “That’s really the best way to say it. Both the community love to come and see it, but also a lot of the artists from around the globe too. They come and travel here to downtown Grayling just to come and explore the art.”

The exhibit had 132 applications this year and 85 artists were selected.

“I think that arts and culture is really important in a community,” said Rosin. “There’s something truly special about, really making a location for people to come to. Specifically, just to flourish and bring out that art side of you.”

Over the last seven years the exhibition has grown.

“When we first started, it was just in one location,” Rosin said. “And then it grew out in several buildings and different businesses throughout downtown. But we felt the need for another location, a specific location for just art explosion. We doubled our footprint actually, two years ago.”

The exhibition runs until September 7th, with a closing award ceremony where they will announce a people’s choice award.

“I want them to come through and gain inspiration,” Rosin said. “Art is healing in a sense. Whether it’s visual art, 3D art. It can be emotional.”
