ISABELLA COUNTY — A Mount Pleasant man has been arrested and arraigned on multiple felony charges after a woman reported being held captive and sexually assaulted for a week, according to Michigan State Police.
Per a Sept. 3 news release from MSP, troopers from the Mount Pleasant Post responded Aug. 30 to a business in Union Township after a 21-year-old woman reported the assaults.

She told investigators she had been confined in a tent by a homeless man, who threatened her with a weapon. Police said she eventually escaped, contacted authorities and identified the suspect and his possible location.
Troopers located evidence supporting her statements and arrested William Paul Thompson, 22, of Mount Pleasant.
Thompson was arraigned Sept. 2 in Isabella County Court on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, unlawful imprisonment, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, carrying a concealed weapon and felonious assault with a dangerous weapon.
The case has been turned over to the Isabella County Prosecutor’s Office.
