PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A 21-year-old Hart man was arrested Thursday night after fleeing police at speeds topping 100 mph following a reported hit-and-run crash in Mason County, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies were called at 8:55 p.m. to Jebavy Drive and Bryant Road after a dark pickup truck allegedly rear-ended another vehicle and fled northbound, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office said.
A deputy on patrol spotted the vehicle near Jebavy and Jagger and attempted a traffic stop. The driver allegedly sped away, weaving over both lanes and passing several vehicles and bicycles, according to the sheriff’s office.
The chase continued through multiple roads in Pere Marquette Township, including Barnhart Road, where the vehicle slid through a yard and doubled back past the patrol car. The driver fled down Shagway Road, turned around, and eventually returned to Jebavy Drive, deputies said.
At Barnhart and Jebavy, the vehicle again left the roadway and struck a patrol car while attempting to back up. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage, and the patrol car was left undrivable. No injuries were reported.
Deputies took the man into custody on charges of hit-and-run, operating while intoxicated, and fleeing and eluding
