CADILLAC —A vacant building in Cadillac’s downtown area will soon see new life, thanks to some new ownership and a vision for the future.
New owners, Daniel and Morgan Babcock said the old home of Tony’s Park Place on Mitchell Street has been empty for too long, and decided to buy it.
They have plans for the entire building, but are focusing on the backside for now, putting in a coffee shop that will be called Renegade Cafe.
They said there were amenities already there, like a pick-up window. It just made sense.
“People are going to get a lot more out of this. And I feel like we’re going to have pretty good traffic back here with the splash pads and the kids. And obviously we’re going to offer ice cream in here for them to come over and have some when it’s hot outside and then in the winter months, hot chocolate and coffees and, you know, your typical beverages that we would serve when it’s colder outside,” said Daniel.
The Babcocks said the coffee shop will start with drinks, baked goods, but hope to expand that menu down the road to feature more made-to-order food items. They said they hope to have the Cafe Renegade open by next summer.
They also said the whole building will eventually be turned into space for multiple businesses and the top floor will be used as a short-term rental.
