Cadillac’s Salvation Army offering free haircuts for back- to -school

CADILLAC — The Cadillac Salvation Army is hoping to lighten parents’ expenses with a back-to-school event, offering free haircuts for the kiddos.

‘Operation Fresh Look’ happens this Tuesday at their Wright Street location.

Salvation Army’s community outreach & program director, Brandi Kinyon said they will have five Cost Cutters hair stylists, from Walmart on hand for the free hair cuts.

The event takes place from 9 to noon on a first come first serve basis. Lunch will also be provided as part of the event.

Kinyon said it’s not just about the free haircuts; it’s about being able to help kids feel like part of the community.

She also said anyone else in the community is also welcome to get a haircut.

“It’s hard to fit in, and so, knowing that you can have that, regardless of whether the family may be facing financial hardship, that’s huge for kids. And as far as the rest of the community, it can help job seekers. It. Builds a sense of belonging. it’s about dignity and that ability to have things that a lot of us take for granted. I need a haircut. I’m going to go get one. That isn’t everyone’s reality, though. And so being able to provide that, that’s a huge thing,” said Kinyon.
