Local professionals can gain immersive learning through Manistee leadership program

MANISTEE — Applications are now open for the 11th cohort of the Manistee Area Leadership Program, a nine-month professional development initiative hosted by the Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce.

Running from September through May, the program is designed to connect and educate local professionals while fostering leadership skills and community engagement across Manistee County.

“The Manistee Area Leadership Program is designed for driven, community-minded professionals who are ready to elevate their leadership potential and deepen their connection to Manistee County,” said Carmen Kott, president and CEO of the Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce. “This selective program offers immersive, hands-on experiences, peer collaboration across sectors, and a behind-the-scenes look at the systems and people shaping our region.”

Participants in the program will explore local government, education, healthcare, natural resources, and economic development while building relationships with fellow professionals and community leaders. Each cohort also collaborates on a community service project that aims to leave a lasting impact on the region.

Recent projects include “Art for All,” an initiative by the 2024-2025 cohort that installed multi-sensory art boards around the county, and a previous cohort’s upgrades to the First Street Dog Park, which added fencing, agility equipment, and a water source.

“The program provided a comprehensive understanding of the diverse aspects of Manistee County and facilitated meaningful engagement with a broad network of dedicated and inspiring community members,” said Kathleen Raspotnik, branch manager of 4Front Credit Union and a current participant. “I have established valuable connections with individuals who continue to offer support and guidance beyond the scope of the program.”

The application deadline is Friday, Aug. 15. Details and the online application are available at ManisteeChamber.com/Leadership.
