Grand Traverse Co. Commissioners approve purchase of Aurelian AI for Co. Dispatch

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — A.I. has become well integrated into ou daily lives, and soon, it could even be involved in the 911 dispatch.

On Wednesday morning during the Grand Traverse County Board of Commissioners meeting, Grand Traverse County Dispatch Deputy Director Corey LeCureux asked for the approval for Dispatch to purchase Aurelian AI for an AI-powered call taking system to answer calls placed to their non- emergency line.

LeCureux and Leah Hornachek from Aurelian AI explained that this would be a 3 Year Contract, with the first year being a trial run they could cancel at any time.

The system would answer the calls, and then would be able to complete the call, or transfer it to 9-1-1 Dispatch depending on code words and how the administrator set up the program.

People would also have the option to text the A.I. systems they may have.

Some commissioners did express worry about taking away the human aspect of these calls, as some people could be in sensitive situations.

LeCureux and Hornachek explained that people would always have the option to talk to a human at any point, whether by asking or the system picking up on keywords. but explained this was to help dispatchers focus on emergency calls.
