TRAVERSE CITY — Warm weather is back in Michigan, and with 80 and 90 degree weather coming to some areas, we have some tips and tricks on how to stay cool from the experts and your peers.
Munson Healthcare Chief Medical Quality and Safety Officer Dr. Joe Santangelo suggests limiting the activity you do during the day.
“Try to avoid things that create heat in your home. So obviously baking things in the oven and having lots of really bright lights on will make your home a little hotter. ” Dr. Santangelo says “So trying to, keep the lights dim or off in the rooms that you’re not, in at the moment, trying not to cook things, in your oven or having your oven on for a long period of time. ”
And it isn’t just during the day you can overheat, many people can also over heat at night.
Dr. Santangelo says sleeping with an ice pack, taking a cool shower in the evening, as well as sleeping with fans and thin blankets will help keep you cool at night.
Local Tyler Cole loves to spend his time outside as a way to stay cool, as he actually doesn’t like AC.
Dr. Santangelo adds that it is important to watch for signs of over heating as well, like your skin turning red, feeling dizzy, and even muscle cramps are all signs you could be over heating and it is time to go inside.
He also wants to encourage people to check in on eachother.
