LEELANAU COUNTY — 2 years ago, Habitat for Humanity in the Grand Traverse region started building what was supposed to be just six homes during the New Waves Community Project.
Now, it has grown to be much more.
The lot is slated to hold 13 homes, with the first 6 already built and housing people inside.

The remaining homes that are still in production have already been spoken for, so once they are done, families will start moving in.
The average home takes about 5 months to build, and Habitat estimates families can start moving in around Christmas for some of the homes.
Habitat for Humanity has two other projects in the works, one of them is eight townhomes in Kalkaska, and a second project after that in Traverse City for 15 habitat homes.
