GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — The ice storm that happened back in march took the state by storm, leaving many people without power, heat, and even homes.
Grand Traverse County was not effected, but that didn’t stop Emergency County Management from implementing the disaster into its training.
Emergency Management coordinator Gregg Bird says he has been to many natural disasters, so for his job, he always prepares for the worst.
During the spring drill the department does, they implemented factors from the disaster in March, and while they did good, Bird says it could always be better.
Bird says “Just some things that we think that we could tweak, that maybe we could do better and and maybe we could get some earlier recognition things and, and, you know, just not so much where we were grossly negligent or totally missing things, but just work on picking it up a notch. ”
Bird adds that Emergency County Management is constantly updating their plans for handling any type of emergency, and says that with emergencies, it is not if, but when.
