Deputy hospitalized following patrol vehicle crash in Grand Traverse County

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — Michigan State Police are investigating a traffic crash involving a Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s deputy on June 9 in Paradise Township.

According to a June 9 news release from the Michigan State Police, on June 9, troopers from the Michigan State Police Traverse City Post responded to Garfield Road near Family Lane in Paradise Township for a traffic crash involving a deputy from the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the Grand Traverse County deputy was traveling north on Garfield Road as he was responding to a personal injury crash. The deputy observed a vehicle in front of them slowing down.

As the deputy was overtaking the vehicle in front of them, the vehicle made a left-hand turn and struck the patrol vehicle in the rear quarter panel. The patrol vehicle entered the ditch and overturned.

The deputy was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. This crash is still under investigation and the name of the deputy is not being released at this time. The 27-year-old driver of the other vehicle was uninjured.

Troopers were assisted by the Paradise Township Fire and Rescue.
