Grayling to host three-day Civil War reenactment at Wellington Farm Park

GRAYLING — Wellington Farm Park near Grayling will host a Civil War reenactment on June 20-22, featuring reenactors from across the Midwest.

The event will take place at the park at 6944 S Military Road, Grayling and will showcase demonstrations of soldier life, including camp setups, troop movements, and artillery drills, with a battle reenactment each afternoon at 2:30 p.m.

Reenactors will bring authentic Civil War paraphernalia such as tents, beds, camp kitchens, uniforms, guns, cannons, and mortars to recreate the atmosphere of a soldier encampment.

On Friday, June 20, participants will set up camp and demonstrate various aspects of camp life.

Saturday and Sunday will feature close order drills, troop movements, and artillery drills, during which cannons will be fired.

In addition to the reenactment, visitors can explore the historic buildings of Wellington Farm Park, which will be open for viewing.

The park is seeking volunteers to help interpret the historic complex, which includes up to ten historical interpretive sites.

Volunteers can enjoy activities such as walking, talking and meeting people in a historical setting, with stipends available to offset transportation costs.

Craft shops are also available for artisans to sell their creations, with a particular need for a blacksmith and a wood crafter.
