LANSING — Governor Gretchen Whitmer has officially signed a bill into law, forgiving Northern Michigan schools for missed days due to the March ice storm
Normally, if a district cancels more than six days, they have to get a waiver from the state to approve an extra three. After that, missed days are tacked onto the end of the school year.
This year, however, that rule posed a problem for schools that were forced to close because of the ice storm.
Monday’s signing means schools in the 12-county ice storm disaster area will start their summer break on time.
