LANSING — An Ingham County court has decided that former Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield will stand trial for more than a dozen felonies related to the alleged misappropriation and embezzlement of campaign funds.
Chatfield is alleged to have illegally used funds from his political nonprofit to fund personal expenses, including family vacations and paying off his credit card balance.
The state alleged in February that Chatfield used more than $21,000 for personal expenses and paid off more than $150,000 to his own credit card.
Attorney General Dana Nessel celebrated the decision and said that she looks forward to a circuit court hearing the case next.
Chatfield will go to trial along with his wife Stephanie, who faces two felony charges.
A pretrial date has not yet been set.
