The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is supporting Michigan fairgrounds through grant funding.
MDAR has given out close to $1.6 million in grants for improvements on fairgrounds and supporting livestock expositions. One of the grant recipients is the Emmet-Charlevoix County Fairgrounds. They got $100 thousand for electrical improvements. MDARD Director Tim Boring says supporting fairs is helpful to the economy.
“These fairs and expos we have across the state are just fundamental for folks connecting with agriculture, says Tim Boring, “It’s certainly a great way to show up, learn more about animal production. Talk about, fruit. Vegetable production is so important across the state. And get out and really experience local communities.”
Michigan’s 86 county fairs attract more than 4.5 million people every year and 29 grants were awarded.
