BEULAH — Benzie County is celebrating Try Transit Week from June 2-7, offering residents a chance to experience the ease and convenience of public transportation.
Organized by Benzie Bus, Try Transit Week features a series of events designed to highlight the benefits of using public transit, including free fares and appreciation days for seniors and regular passengers.
“Benzie Bus makes it easy to get to doctor’s appointments and to enjoy the many restaurants and shops in Benzie County,” said Rob Scott, Mobility Manager for Benzie Bus.
Throughout the week, Benzie Bus will host various activities to engage the community and encourage first-time riders.
Events include ‘Tour the Bus Day’ on June 2, where residents can meet at Family Fare locations in Benzonia and Frankfort to learn more about the bus services.
- June 3: ‘Bike and Ride Day’ will take place at the Betsie Valley Trailhead in Beulah, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly paved trail section and a demonstration of the bus’s bike rack capabilities.
- June 4: Dedicated to senior passengers with free fares for those aged 60 and above
- June 5: Marks Passenger Appreciation Day, allowing Benzie Bus to thank its regular riders. The week concludes with ‘Free Fare Friday’
- June 6: All fares, including the Crystal Lake Express, are waived, and free rides to partner organizations are offered on June 7.
A Facebook contest will run throughout the week, offering daily drawings for prizes from local businesses such as Coastline Cycles, Crystal Lake Adventure Sports, Dinghy’s and St. Ambrose Cellars.
Try Transit Week aims to demonstrate the convenience and accessibility of Benzie Bus, encouraging more residents to consider public transit as a viable option for their daily commutes and activities.
