State partners host first ever drone race

GRAYLING — The State of Michigan sponsoring the first ever drone race. The Uncrewed Triple Challenge was designed to test the abilities of drones on sea, air and land. The Michigan National Guard, the Michigan Department of Transportation, and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation all partnered to make this event happen. The competition started at the Alpena Harbor and ended at Camp Grayling. Drones competed to see who was the fastest and most successful with delivering a package on each course. The competition was created to see how drones can be used to make our lives more efficient.

“I think there’s a lot that Michigan can bring to the table for the for the innovation and the industry, for all things autonomous, whether it’s a drone that flies, that floats or drives on the ground,” says Colonel Lucas Lanczy, Camp Grayling National Guard, “We have so much capability here of space that we want to be part of the solution and drive innovation. And there’s nothing like a competition that brings teams together. And that’s exactly what we saw with this.”

The race included competitors from 3 different countries and 7 states.
