Unique lineworker training offered to Northern Michigan high school students

Students learn pole climbing, OSHA 10, CPR, and first aid.

High school juniors and seniors in Boyne City, Michigan, can explore careers as linemen through the Char-EM Career and Technical Education program, which includes classroom instruction and practical climbing experience.

Supported by Great Lakes Energy, the program offers credits in OSHA 10, CPR, and first aid. Students learn about various career paths, such as underground locators, meter technicians, and customer service, while also gaining skills to physically and mentally prepare for the demanding job.
