Traverse City Manager says new budget reflects the community’s values

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Commission is looking over their budget for the 2025 - 2026 fiscal year. The budget includes 6 more positions at the Traverse City Fire Department.

In 2023, a millage was passed for the fire department to have its own EMS. The department has already ordered an ambulance and is now working on staffing.

The budget will also be adding $30,000 to the Arts Commission, making the budget $60,000. A majority of the budget will be going towards a mural on Eighth Street.

“Any municipal budget reflects the values of a community,” says Liz Vogel, City Manager, “So just as an EMS, the values of this community are for public safety and also for artwork as well. The arts are a really important part of the Traverse City area and the region. We are Michigan’s creative coast.”

The budget will be looked over again at the next commissioners meeting and will most likely be voted on at the beginning of June.
