Austin Brothers’ Beer Company to host Leader Dogs for the Blind event in Alpena

ALPENA — Austin Brothers’ Beer Company in Alpena is set to host a special event with Leader Dogs for the Blind on May 31.

According to a May 13 news release from the company, the event will run from noon to 8 p.m. on May 31 at Austin Brothers Beer Company at 821 W Miller St. in Alpena.

It will feature activities such as a guided blindfolded white cane walk, blindfolded cornhole, and opportunities to meet future guide dogs. These activities aim to raise awareness about the need for guide dogs in northeast Michigan.

“This event will help raise awareness of the need for guide dogs in northeast Michigan,” said Juanita Lillie, a current Leader Dogs client who is paired with her second guide dog, Resi.

“Raising future leader dogs takes effort and dedication, but the end result is very rewarding,” said Andrea Mroz, puppy raiser for Leader Dogs.

Tickets for the event cost $20 after May 1st and can be purchased at Austin Brothers’ Beer Company or on their website. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Leader Dogs for the Blind.

Austin Brothers’ Beer Company is a family-owned microbrewery founded by owners originally from Southern California who decided to start their business in Alpena, Michigan.

Leader Dogs for the Blind provides free services to clients, including travel, room and board, equipment, and training, funded entirely by philanthropic donations.

The event aims to be both educational and enjoyable, with proceeds supporting the important work of Leader Dogs for the Blind in promoting independence and mobility for those in need.
