Cherry Capital Airport Fire Department trains for plane fires

TRAVERSE CITY — The Cherry Capital Airport Fire Department held their annual live burn simulation. The Federal Aviation Administration requires the airport to do this simulation once a year. Firefighters worked on putting a fire out on the ground and the plane. Firefighters also went inside the plane to check for victims and save them. The training officer says staying on top of this kind of instruction is necessary.

“We have a certain amount of training that we do every month, “says lt. Bob Scott, training officer, “once a year we do this. So, it’s important to, for us to keep up on, you know, with, with, aircraft safety. You don’t have a lot of this happening, thank god. But it’s, very important to keep up, maintain the training so that when it does happen, you’re ready to go.”

The fire department has two fire trucks and combined they carry around 4,500 gallons of water.
