MICHIGAN — May 7th was the deadline to get your Real ID if you’re planning to travel by plane in the U.S.
The requirement is being implemented under federal law.
The new ID‘s feature either a gold star in the top right or the state of Michigan with the star in the top right.
If you have an enhanced license, those are automatically Real ID compliant. U.S. Passports are also accepted in the security process.
Cherry Capital Airport says they only had about 10 people today that required extra screening after not meeting that deadline.
“It’s been in place since 2005, and it’s now time to really get that done,” says Cherry Capital Airport CEP Kevin Klein. “It’s really important to get your Real ID because here at Cherry Capital, we’re fortunate that our population is very compliant with Real ID, which is great, but you might run into other airports as you’re traveling, whether you’re in Florida or on the East Coast, that line might be very long and really delay your trip.”
Michigan’s old license design will be phased out by January 2029.
