MACKINAC ISLAND— Mackinac Island held its yearly elections today, with Mayor Margaret Doud re-elected for a 50th term.
Doud ran unopposed in the election, marking a significant milestone in local governance. All other positions, including Treasurer, Clerk, Assessor, and Supervisor, were also uncontested.

In the City Council election, Lindsey White emerged as the top vote-getter, securing 207 votes. Incumbent Richard Chambers was also re-elected with 206 votes, while Alan Sehoyan received 111 votes.
Voters also showed strong support for the school operating millage, which passed with 260 votes in favor and 21 against.
Doud was born and raised on Mackinac Island and attended the Thomas Ferry School until ninth grade. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Monroe and received a degree in education from Central Michigan University.
She taught third grade at Ottawa Elementary School in Petoskey for two years, then taught kindergarten on Mackinac Island for four years, resigning in 1974.
That same year, she was appointed to the City Council to fulfill the term of Dennis Brodeur, who was retiring, and a year later, she ran successfully for mayor, replacing Clem Gunn. She has been the Mayor of Mackinac Island since her first win in April 1975.
