GRATIOT COUNTY — The Gratiot County Sheriff’s Department has issued a correction to its May 5 press release regarding the discovery of human remains near Alger Road.
The initial press release suggested that the remains might belong to a woman who was a patient at a facility, but it has now been clarified that she may have been the subject of a missing person report from Clare County. The woman was last seen visiting a patient in Alma and was believed to be traveling on foot.
“We apologize for any confusion caused by the initial release that may have implied she was a patient at a facility,” the Gratiot County Sheriff’s Department said.
The remains were discovered in a field, and the investigation is ongoing to confirm the identity of the deceased. The circumstances surrounding the woman’s disappearance remain unclear.
The Gratiot County Sheriff’s Department is committed to providing accurate information as the investigation progresses.
