TRAVERSE CITY — It’s not a bird. It’s not a plane. It’s a drone.
Traverse Connect held a drone demonstration showcase on how they feel drones can benefit the region.
There were three demonstrations that people saw, a water sampling demonstration, a U.S Coast Guard search and rescue and a type of mapping for underwater terrain analysis. This drone project was made possible by the advanced aerial mobility activation fund. The goal is to create more efficiencies with the use of drone’s in everyday tasks.
“Maybe it’s life or death situation, being able to use the simulation that we did today, we sent a drone out to a boat that was able to reach the boat in distress faster than humans could,” says Camille Hoisington, Traverse Connect, “let’s say on a Coast Guard helicopter. So, to be able to send a drone out ahead of schedule, it’s much faster. It’s more efficient.”
The funding for the project will also be used for delivering medication for Munson Medical Center. There will be a demonstration on that process in the next few weeks.
