Two brothers charged with murder of Midland County woman

MIDLAND COUNTY — Two brothers have been formally charged, nearly five years after the death of a Midland County woman.

The investigation started in November 2020, when emergency responders found 75-year-old Thelma Hoffman in her Mt. Haley Township home, with a gunshot wound.

EMS tried to save her life but were unsuccessful. Hoffman died before she could be taken to the hospital.

Now, the Midland County Sheriff’s Office says they has figured out who may be responsible, after getting help from several agencies, including the FBI and the Michigan State Police Cold Case Unit.

Two brothers, James and Kody Hintz, both from Midland County, are being charged with Hoffman’s murder.

They are being held on $5 million bonds. Their next court appearance is scheduled for May 13.
