GAYLORD — The Gaylord Tourism Bureau is encouraging everyone in the area to do their part on Earth Day right before the busy summer season.
They say it’s as important as ever after the devastating ice storm that hit the area 3 weeks ago. But as destructive as it was, Gaylord sees it as the constantly cycling beauty of Mother Nature.
“Earth Day really seems very special to us this year,” says Christy Walcott with the Gaylord Tourism Bureau. “I think we’re definitely appreciating nature, maybe more than we did in the past, or looking at things through different eyes after the ice storm. And we’re very fortunate that we live in an area as beautiful as we do. And it definitely looks a little different since the ice storm, but nature is healing. You can already see it coming back to life.”
And the Gaylord DDA held a volunteer Earth Day cleanup event on Earth Day afternoon to help keep their downtown trash free.
