Traverse City man charged with meth and cocaine possession after traffic stop

BENZIE COUNTY — A Traverse City man was arrested for possession of meth and cocaine after traffic stop in Benzie County.

According to an April 18 news release, the initial traffic stop occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 10, a motor carrier officer from the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post stopped a pick-up truck for a moving violation on US 131 near Goose Road in Honor.

After the officer’s roadside investigation, a consent search of the occupants and vehicle was granted. The motor carrier officer located small bags with suspected cocaine and methamphetamine inside, glass pipes, and other drug paraphernalia that belonged to the passenger.

Officers also located an unregistered handgun. The passenger, 36-year-old Christopher Genereaux from Traverse City, was lodged at the Benzie County Jail for the suspected narcotics found in the vehicle. The report was sent to the Benzie County Prosecutor’s Office for further review. He was arraigned on April 11 in the 85th District Court in Benzie County on one count of Possession of Methamphetamine and one count of Possession of Cocaine (less than 25 grams). Genereaux was given a $50,000 cash surety bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for 1:00 p.m on May 1.
