TRAVERSE CITY — The Father Fred Foundation celebrated a birthday near and dear to them.
Father Edwin Fredrick, who the non-profit is named after, would have been 100 on April 17th.
The foundation celebrated by throwing a birthday celebration and reflecting on the importance of helping with essential needs within the community. They say even though Father Fred’s legacy has grown since the organization was founded back in 1989, they haven’t lost their connection to the people who walk through their doors.
It’s a very fine line of getting big and still having that personal connection with everyone,” says Father Fred Foundation Executive Director Candice Hamel. “So i think that we’re doing our best to make sure that we have that balance. And everyone is known by name, and we’re so honoring each individual and treating them with respect and just the way that he wanted. But we’re just able to spread a little farther and help more people.”
The foundation will also be hosting a community wide open house in September to further commemorate Father Fred’s 100th birthday.
