LEELANAU COUNTY — The Elmwood Township Marina in Leelanau County will be getting new upgrades this summer.
The marina is building a new Harbor Building featuring a day room, new bathrooms and showers. Something that boaters of the marina have not had for 30 years. There will also be an outdoor pavilion with grills and a new grinder at the fish station. The marina also added a new convenience store in case boaters forget any essentials before they set sail.
Harbormaster Dan Jenuwine said they plan to upgrade their service, too.
“So when a boater pulls up to go to their slip, if they’ve got a carload of stuff that needs to go to the boat, our people are going to be there to help them get their stuff to the boat. When they’re coming back, they need a hand, we’ll be there. If they’re leaving, they will cast off the mooring lines and will receive them when they come back. We’re just going to upgrade the level of service we’re giving everybody.”
The original date for the new Harbor Building was originally in May, but because of the long winter, it will now open at the end of the first week of July.
