INDIAN RIVER — The Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is announcing the arrest of Blaine Mitchell Powell, 26, of Indian River
According to a news release, Powell was arrested following an investigation which began when a tip was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The investigation was initiated when it was learned that Powell was sharing files of child sexually abusive material on the internet.
Powell was charged with one count of possession of child sexually abusive material, one count of distributing or promoting child sexually abusive material, and two counts of using a computer to commit a crime. Powell was arraigned in the 89th Judicial District Court on March 6.
The MSP ICAC Task Force was assisted by the MSP Emergency Support Team.
The MSP Computer Crimes Unit encourages parents to speak to their children about the safe use of the internet.
