Vestaburg man charged for death threats to Cadillac city official and staff

CADILLAC — A man from Vestaburg was in a Wexford County court Friday, charged with making death threats against Cadillac city leaders.

26-year-old Jamie Moore was charged with four misdemeanors, three counts of malicious use of telecommunications services and one of using a computer to commit a crime.

Police arrested Moore Thursday for allegedly making death threats back in January against former mayor Carla Filkins, and city manager Marcus Peccia and his wife. The threats canceled the city council meeting that was set to happen hours later.

City manager Marcus Peccia issued a statement earlier Friday. Moore’s next court appearance is for his pretrial, set for 9 a.m. March 26.

CADILLAC — A 26-year-old Vestaburg man was arrested on Thursday, March 6 after a four-count misdemeanor warrant was issued for making death threats to an elected city official, a city staff member and a family member of a city staff member.

Currently, the suspect’s name is being withheld pending arraignment. This update follows an investigation that began on Jan. 21.

This is a developing story and 9&10 News will have updates with additional information as we receive it.

The City of Cadillac canceled two city council meetings in January due to perceived death threats against city leaders and their families that were deemed credible.

The city council had several issues on the agenda for the canceled meetings, including PFAS concerns in the area and the city manager’s annual evaluation. Both come with controversy and people were expected to speak out during those meetings.

As the investigation into the threats continued in late January, the Cadillac Police reported that they were working with the Attorney General’s Office on the case. No further details were made available due to the active investigation.
